We knew this was going to be a tough match against an experienced and physically strong Blairgowrie team. They certainly created more goal scoring opportunities but our defensive work was excellent throughout with an outstanding match for Zoe in our goal. She made numerous fantastic saves to keep the game within our grasp. In the first quarter, we took the lead, scoring from a great delivery into the D from Freya on the right-hand side. She picked out Abbey W and she scored a great goal to put us 1 - 0 up. This scoreline remained 1-0 until the 3rd quarter when Blairgowrie scored 2 to put them 2 - 1 up. Our passing game was not as strong as it had been in previous games but this did not affect our determination and work rate to get something out of the match. We battled hard and got the reward when Iona scored a great open play goal. The final quarter saw us finish strong and the passing game picked up. It remained 2 - 2 and it was clear everyone was disappointed which demonstrates the standard this group of players have set themselves. On reflection, it was a big improvement on when we played Blairgowrie in the league earlier in the season. We went down 1 - 5 therefore there is lots of positives to take from the match and we will strive to get the consistency in our performance. Player of Match today was Zoe - great saves throughout!
